A use after free vulnerability exists in curl <7.87.0. Curl can be asked to *tunnel* virtually all protocols it supports through an HTTP proxy. HTTP proxies can (and often do) deny such tunnel operations. When getting denied to tunnel the specific protocols SMB or TELNET, curl would use a heap-allocated struct after it had been freed, in its transfer shutdown code path.
Conclusion & alert: CVE-2022-43552 is rated High Exploit Risk (69.9/100): CVSS Medium severity, with medium exploitation likelihood (EPSS 2.51%). Core evidence: 1 public exploit reference(s) are indexed (Exploit-DB). EPSS rose +2.39% over the last day, indicating growing attacker interest. Mandatory action: Public exploits are available—assess exposure, apply mitigations, and prioritize patching.
Risk is dynamic; we continuously reassess and refresh what is shown on this page as upstream context changes.
