A privilege escalation vulnerability exists in the experimental policy mechanism in all active release lines: 16.x, 18.x and, 20.x. The use of the deprecated API `process.binding()` can bypass the policy mechanism by requiring internal modules and eventually take advantage of `process.binding('spawn_sync')` run arbitrary code, outside of the limits defined in a `policy.json` file. Please note that at the time this CVE was issued, the policy is an experimental feature of Node.js.
Conclusion & alert: CVE-2023-32559 is rated High Exploit Risk (71.1/100): CVSS High severity, with medium exploitation likelihood (EPSS 1.48%). Core evidence: 1 public exploit reference(s) are indexed (Exploit-DB). EPSS rose +1.43% over the last day, indicating growing attacker interest. Mandatory action: Public exploits are available—assess exposure, apply mitigations, and prioritize patching.
Risk is dynamic; we continuously reassess and refresh what is shown on this page as upstream context changes.
