GHSA-6878-6wc2-pf5h · Severity: medium · Ecosystem: rust — Sequential calls of encryption API (`encrypt`, `wrap`, and `dump`) result in nonce reuse
Versions of the package cocoon before 0.4.0 are vulnerable to Reusing a Nonce, Key Pair in Encryption when the encrypt, wrap, and dump functions are sequentially called. An attacker can generate the same ciphertext by creating a new encrypted message with the same cocoon object. **Note:** The issue does NOT affect objects created with Cocoon::new which utilizes ThreadRng.
Conclusion & alert: CVE-2024-21530 is rated Low Risk (19.3/100): CVSS Medium severity, with low exploitation likelihood (EPSS 0.14%). Mandatory action: Low composite risk—no urgent action required; patch on your normal maintenance cycle and revisit priority if CVSS or EPSS increases.
Risk is dynamic; we continuously reassess and refresh what is shown on this page as upstream context changes.
EPSS lead: Daily EPSS estimates relative likelihood of exploitation; percentile ranks this CVE among scored vulnerabilities (higher = more severe relative rank).
